2010 Good Neighbor Ujima Awards

Delaware Future senior JaQuan Moss received the Student Leadership Award from the second annual State Farm Ujima Awards. These awards are given to individuals who reach out and help those in need. Community service and volunteerism are at the forefront of our nation's consciousness and are important ingredients to add to the make up of our youth. JaQuan"s efforts both in community service and in  the classroom  are a barometer to his future success. 

Black History Panel


Black History Month highlights the important contributions Black Americans have made to this great country of ours. The passage of time does not diminish the significance of the benefaction given by people of color to this nation. We must never forget and continue to educate our youth of the importance of the past. Delaware Futures conducted an Black History Panel to continue to pass the word and inform the uninformed of their glorious and painful past. The panel consisted of Wilmington Rotary member's Dan Young ,Marilyn Whittington, and Ron Whittington. The panel answered the question " what does Black History Month mean to me"?

Cooking Class 2010

Delaware Futures students and staff completed our annual cooking class with Trinity Episcopal's Facilities Manager and former caterer John Haddock. Mr. Haddock showed DF students how to make healthy meals in a simple efficient manner. In the first class the students learned how to make a chicken casserole, using rice, chicken, broccoli, and stuffing. John also showed the students how to make a rice and beans mix with left over chicken added, delicious.

 In the second class Mr. Haddock showed the students how to make their own pizza from scratch. The students got their hands dirty kneading the dough, shaping their individual pizza and adding the toppings.
